Crescendo Chorus: A Celtic Wintertide - Echoes of an Early Yuletide

This festive performance beautifully interweaves raw, evocative Celtic folk tunes with the highly sophisticated polyphonic masterpieces of the British Renaissance and Baroque traditions.

The Crescendo Chorus will be joined by an exceptional period ensemble featuring Zoe Vandermeer (Celtic harp), Tricia van Oers (recorders), and Anne Legêne (viola da gamba), all under the expert direction of Christine Gevert at the organ. Together, they will guide audiences through a seasonal tapestry that spans from the intricate 10-part Renaissance polyphony of Scottish composer Robert Carver's Mass Dum sacrum mysterium to hauntingly beautiful traditional arrangements like The Darkest Midnight in December (Wexford Carol variant) and the Scottish Gaelic Tàladh Chriosda (Christ Child's Lullaby). Highlighting early masterworks by William Byrd, Thomas Ravenscroft, and Hugh Aston alongside beloved seasonal standards like Greensleeves/Scarborough Fair and The Holly and the Ivy, this concert promises a rare, radiant exploration of light, history, and community to illuminate the winter season.

The concert will also be presented on December 17, 26, and 27 at different venues. Please find the details on their website: crescendomusic.org
