The Ritual Exchange May 26th @ 7:30pm
Join with Hudson Muslim Youth in partnership with the Ritual Exchange on May 26th at 7:30 pm at the Hudson Lodge for prayer and potluck as a conclusion to our community-wide day of fasting! In solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters during this holy season of Ramadan, people of all faiths, no faith, and everything in between are invited from sunrise to sunset to abstain from eating and drinking (unless you are sick, on medication that requires you to eat, pregnant, or nursing -please find an alternative fast). Then please join together at 7:30 at the Hudson Lodge (601 Union St) for a gathering to break our fast.
At this gathering you’re invited to participate in:
Ablution – The Hudson Muslim Youth will teach us this ritual washing before prayer which includes washing of hands, mouth, nostrils, arms, head, and feet with water.
Breaking of Fast and a Call to Prayer – At Sundown, everyone will be invited to come together and simultaneously eat a date (as is tradition) and drink water to break their fast together as one. Then, facing east towards Mecca, we will be called to prayer by one of our Muslim leaders. This requires kneeling so if you can, please bring a prayer rug, yoga mat, or even a towel. We will have some extras to provide but not a lot.
Iftar – Meal eaten after sundown. We will be sharing a community potluck. Please bring a vegetarian or vegan dish to share (this makes it easiest for those who practice Kosher or Halal restrictions).
Your complete participation in this act of solidarity is a meaningful gesture to our local Muslim community that we stand with and support them for the fullness of who they are and what they believe and practice.
